NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Newport News police say a man has serious injuries after a shooting in the city's Southeast community.
A gunshot detection system indicated shots were fired around 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of 26th Street and Chestnut Avenue, according to a Newport News Police Department spokesman.
As officers were driving to the area, "the call was upgraded to a shooting," the spokesman said.
Police found a man with a gunshot wound outside. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries that may be life-threatening.
Right now, investigators have no suspect information.
