NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A convicted felon will spend nearly four years behind bars after illegally possessing a gun and fleeing from Newport News police in 2022, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said Wednesday.
Larry Jones, 45, was sentenced to three years and ten months in prison for a felon in possession of a firearm charge.
In June 2022, Jones was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants, including firearms-related offenses.
When Newport News police attempted to pull him over, he allegedly tried to run away. He was ultimately apprehended, however.
According to the DOJ, a subsequent search of Jones' residence led to the discovery of a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun that was loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition.
The 45-year-old has been previously convicted of multiple felony offenses, including drug distribution, possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm.
