Navy sailor pleads guilty after trying to arrange sex acts with 10-year-old

Petty Officer First Class Vicente Muniz pleaded guilty to attempting to persuade, induce, entice and coerce a minor to engage in sexual activities.

NORFOLK, Va. — A Navy sailor from Virginia Beach pleaded guilty on Tuesday to trying to arrange sex acts with a minor, the Department of Justice announced.

Petty Officer First Class Vicente Muniz, Jr., 35,  pleaded guilty to attempting to persuade, induce, entice, and coerce a minor to engage in sexual activity.

According to court documents, Muniz Jr. contacted a man he believed to be the father of a 10-year-old child through a social media app. He tried to set up a meeting to engage in sexual acts with the child.

Investigators said Muniz Jr. attempted to meet up with another child earlier that day but the minor stopped responding. Later that day, Muniz Jr. tried to meet up with who he thought was the father and child, and he was arrested.

He faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison and a maximum penalty of life in prison.

Muniz is scheduled to be sentenced on July 19.
