NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A murder-for-hire case is now headed to a grand jury.

21-year-old Anthony Johnson is charged with conspiracy to commit murder. A Norfolk court certified that charge to the grand jury on Thursday.

Last summer, Johnson allegedly promised to pay three homeless men to kill his then-pregnant wife.

Prosecutors say those men attacked her. She survived and later gave birth to a healthy baby.

Johnson remains behind bars. His wife, meanwhile, maintains he is innocent.
