NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The mother of a 9-year-old girl from Newport News was sentenced for kidnapping on Friday.

On April 15 of last year, the Newport News Police Department sent out a release asking the public to be on the lookout for 9-year-old Brielle Silver.

Newport News investigators said Brielle's father reported to officers that Gould, who doesn't have custody of the 9-year-old, picked their daughter up from the Academy of Dance & Gymnastics around 10 a.m. Saturday. The business is on Jefferson Avenue near Richneck Road.

Newport News police said Brielle was located in Georgia on April 16 and subsequently reunited with her family.

Police charged Bethany Gould with misdemeanor abduction and issued an emergency protection order against her. She was extradited to Virginia.

On Friday, Gould was sentenced to 5 years in penitentiary with 4 years suspended and 3 years of probation for felony kidnapping by a parent.
