SMITHFIELD, Va. — Four people, including a juvenile, were arrested Monday night after allegedly stealing from a Virginia ABC store in Smithfield.
The Smithfield Police Department said the suspects stole $1,500 worth of merchandise.
The three adults — Michael Brown, 40; John Wood, 32; and Iyona Ankum, 22 — are facing multiple charges, including grand larceny and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Police told 13News Now that the three adults are being held without bond.
Charges against the fourth suspect — a boy under the age of 18 — are pending.
The investigation is ongoing.
In recent years, Virginia ABC stores have reported a surge in thefts. According to records obtained by 13News Now, $576,166 worth of liquor was stolen from ABC stores in the last half of 2022.
