NORFOLK, Va. — A 36-year-old man was sentenced to six years in prison on Friday after he badly injured a woman while attempting to steal from her inside a Norfolk convenience store, the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney announced.
In June 2023, Kevin Moon allegedly tried to grab a 62-year-old woman's pocketbook and phone while she was using a skill game machine inside a 7-Eleven store on Tidewater Drive.
"The woman kept a strong grip on her items, and Mr. Moon dragged her to the floor in his attempt to snatch them from her, resulting in her tearing a ligament in her ankle and receiving numerous bruises," according to a release.
Despite Moon's efforts, the victim managed to hold onto her stuff.
Moon fled from the scene but was ultimately arrested two days later. Officials said he was brought into custody and admitted to robbing the woman.
In December, Moon pleaded guilty to robbery by force.
“I express my appreciation to the victim for testifying in court and to the Norfolk Police for their fine work in the case,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi. “With witness cooperation, good police work, and technology like FLOCK, we are able to hold people accountable and help make our community safer.”
