NORFOLK, Va. — A man will spend nearly three and a half years in prison for charges stemming from a drunk driving crash that led police to a stolen gun and a number of illegal drugs, including fentanyl, according to the City of Norfolk.

On Tuesday, Kenneth Todd Jr., 49, pleaded guilty to possessing with the intent to distribute Schedule I or II drugs, being a convicted non-violent felon in possession of a firearm, receiving a stolen firearm and driving under the influence.

Virginia State Police responded to a crash on March 23 near Interstate 64 and the exchange with Interstate 264. The responding trooper said the driver, identified as Todd, smelt of alcohol and had bloodshot, glassy eyes. Using a field sobriety test, Todd was determined to be impaired and was arrested for driving under the influence.

A subsequent search of Todd's vehicle revealed a digital scale and a water bottle that the trooper noted was heavier than a typical bottle. Officials said the water bottle had a false bottom where 227 fentanyl pills, 51 grams of cocaine and 19 MDMA pills were hidden.

A stolen firearm was also found inside the vehicle.

As part of a plea deal, Todd was sentenced to 21 years in custody with 17 years and seven month suspended if he maintains 15 years of good behavior, complete supervised probation, pay a $250 fine, forfeit his driver's license for a year, complete the Chesapeake Bay Alcohol Safety Action Program and forgo drugs and alcohol.
