CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A man pleaded guilty to six charges after he admitted to shooting at a Chesapeake police officer during a traffic stop earlier this year.
On the morning of January 24, an officer tried to pull over 36-year-old Robert Lightsey near Greenbrier Parkway and Jarman Road, when Lightsey took out a gun and fired at that officer.
The officer was unhurt, but Lightsey escaped. It took investigators two days to find both Lightsey and his abandoned car.
On Tuesday, Lightsey stood in front of a judge and pleaded guilty to all counts. The judge sentenced him to more than 33 years in prison, with all but five years suspended. Attorneys told 13News Now it's still a stricter sentence than the guidelines called for.
Lightsey declined to apologize or say anything at all to the judge at Tuesday's court hearing.
