Man killed in Newport News double-shooting identified

The two men were found shot on North Trellis Court near Warwick Boulevard Sunday evening, police say.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A man is dead and another is injured following a shooting on North Trellis Court in Newport News Sunday evening, authorities said.

The Newport News Police Department (NNPD) was alerted to the incident near Warwick Boulevard shortly after 5:30 p.m. 

Police said there were two men shot at the scene who were subsequently taken to a hospital. One man, later identified as 21-year-old Zair Grenade, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. NNPD said the other victim, who has not been publicly named, is expected to survive.

There's no word on the circumstances surrounding the shooting or any suspect information. An investigation is underway.
