BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. — Sheriff’s deputies in Bertie County are looing for a suspect in a deadly shooting that happened Saturday night.
The call came in about 9:30 p.m., according to a Facebook post from the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office. They were dispatched to a Dollar General store in Merry Hill on reports of shots fired with a man down in the parking lot.
Deputies and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol arrived, along with emergency medical services. However, the man was pronounced dead on scene. He has not yet been identified.
Additional units from Down East Drug and Violent Crime Task Force and Ahoskie Police Department arrived to assist in canvassing the area to locate the suspect. K-9 units and a drone were deployed during the search efforts.
The suspect is described as a Black male wearing a blue hoodie and black pants. No further descriptive information was available.
