NORFOLK, Va. — A man has been charged in connection to a deadly shooting in Norfolk on Monday, police said
The Norfolk Police Department charged Michael D. Parker with second-degree murder after an investigation revealed he was the shooter in the shooting at the Cook Out on East Little Creek Road near Tidewater Drive. After arriving at the scene shortly after 1:25 a.m., officers pronounced a man dead at the scene. Meanwhile, another man was grazed by a bullet.
The Cook Out restaurant was roped off while police investigated the scene.
“Never have I ever had someone shoot through my drive-thru window,” said restaurant manager Johnathan Bryan.
Over the last seven years, Bryan has taken hundreds of food orders while working at Cook Out. Though, the latest order is the one he said he'll never forget.
“Barbecue sandwich, no hot sauce and a Mr. Pibb.”
It’s the last order he took at the walk-up window for a man who later died outside the fast food chain on East Little Creek Road.
“I took his order, got his food to him,” he said. “By the time I walked…to the drive-thru window to see if there’s any cars out, he was at the menu board. ”
Bryan said after an altercation in the drive-thru line, he heard a gunshot and later saw the victim lying on the ground. He said he saw police nearby and got their attention in an effort to help.
Bryan said one bullet made its way inside the restaurant on the drive-thru side grazing one of the employees at the cash register.
“I do not know how that bullet hit him,” he said.
Parker was taken into custody.
Bryan said the bullet grazed the side of the cashier. He said he was happy to know police have a suspect in custody. More importantly, he’s thankful all of his employees are okay.
“I was so scared for them," Bryan said. “And the trauma that they went through last night is absolutely insane.”
A neighbor who did not want to be identified said he heard about three gunshots on his way to work. He said it's uncommon to see a shooting in this area.
Parker is currently being held at Norkfolk City Jail without bond.
