NORFOLK, Va. — A judge convicted a  Norfolk man on Thursday after leading police on a high-speed pursuit last summer, the city's Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney said.

The conviction of Teron Danzell Young, 36,  comes after he was charged with felony eluding and felony carrying of a concealed firearm without permits in a second or subsequent offense. First offenses are misdemeanors and Young was previously convicted of that charge in 2014.

Young was recklessly speeding on Interstate 64 on July 4, 2023. Virginia State Troopers attempted to pull Young over, but he ignored them, according to the Commonwealth Attorney's Office.

He weaved in and out of lanes at speeds reaching 104 mph. He exited the interstate at Norview Avenue, ran a red light and then pulled over into an apartment.

Before they detained Young, he told troopers he had a gun in his pocket. Troopers recovered it from a fully zipped pocket of his pants.

“Mr. Young is going to prison because he endangered himself, other drivers, and the trooper who rightly wanted him to stop,” Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi wrote in a news release.

“Mr. Young’s illegal concealment of a gun made matters even more dangerous, and, having committed the crime before, he should have known better.”

Young will be sentenced on April 18.
