PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) — A man was convicted of first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony on Wednesday for the February 2018 fatal shooting of a 22-year-old.

35-year-old Jarvis L. Deloatch was convicted for the murder of Keytondra M. Wilson, 22, of Suffolk. Officers said Deloatch shot Wilson near Portsmouth Boulevard and Des Moines Avenue around 3 p.m. on February 13.

The Commonwealth's evidence proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Deloatch followed Wilson in his vehicle across the city of Portsmouth. Wilson called 911 and reported that Deloatch was trying to hit her car and shoot her.

Deloatch followed Wilson to the intersection of Portsmouth Boulevard and Des Moines Avenue, where he got out of his vehicle and shot the victim seven times in her vehicle. Wilson was dead on the scene when police and medics arrived.

According to officials, Deloatch had prior convictions for malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of malicious wounding, and domestic assault & battery of a family member.

Portsmouth Commonwealth will argue for the recommended life sentence in prison plus three years at the sentencing hearing on February 28, 2019.
