HAMPTON, Va. — A man was charged after he shot at a vehicle with people inside in Hampton Tuesday, police said.
The investigation began around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when Hampton police dispatchers got a report of a vehicle being hit by gunfire several times in the 1st block of South First Street.
Investigators think Raekwon Washington, 26, approached two victims, a 20-year-old Hampton woman and a 38-year-old Portsmouth man. After talking, Washington allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot at the vehicle.
The Hampton Police Division said officers saw Washington's vehicle getting away. After chasing him, officers were able to stop Washington. He was charged with:
- Two counts of attempted malicious wounding.
- One count of shooting into an occupied vehicle.
- One count of shooting across a roadway.
- One count of felony evade and elude.
- Two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
- One count of driving revoked.
- One count of reckless handling of firearm.
- One count of possession of stolen property.
- One count of dangerous use of firearms.
