Fugitive accused of multiple robberies, sexual assault in Hampton arrested in Smithfield

Investigators say Malcoom Shearn would connect with women online through various websites and agree to meet with his victims in Hampton. He was arrested Tuesday.

SMITHFIELD, Va. — A man accused of multiple counts of armed robbery and sexual assault in Hampton has been caught in Smithfield.

The Smithfield Police Department said its officers, along with assistance from the Hampton Police Division (HPD) and US Marshals Service, arrested Malcoom Shearn on Tuesday at the Bradford Mews apartment complex.

Smithfield police said Shearn was taken into custody without incident.

Lt. Will Wooley with Smithfield PD said Tuesday's operation started with HPD.

"They were working an investigation that we had assisted them on earlier in the year on Malcolm Shearn," Wooley said. "He was located -- really U.S. Marshals Task Force took the lead on this -- an operation was put together, and Smithfield Police Department was there to assist with our emergency response team and our people on the ground.”

According to HPD, Shearn would connect with women online through various websites and agree to meet with them in Hampton. He would then rob, abduct, and sexually assault his victims. HPD tells 13News Now Shearn is now in their custody, and will be charged with three counts of robbery, and one count each of abduction, maiming, and sexual battery.
