NORFOLK, Va. — Two people are facing murder charges over the death of a baby girl, the Norfolk Police Department said.
Police said officers were called to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters on Saturday afternoon for a report of a child protection call. Officers reported an unresponsive infant had been brought to the hospital showing signs of abuse.
The baby girl was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Investigators said that following an investigation, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk ruled the child's death as a homicide.
23-year-old Hilary D. Johnson and 21-year-old Zibreyea S. Parker have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and child abuse. Norfolk police have confirmed that the suspects are the baby's parents.
Police have not said what led to the Medical Examiner's homicide ruling.
Both are currently being held without bond at the Norfolk City Jail.
