Hampton Police investigate assault on two officers Sept. 17.

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Police have arrested a person they say dragged two officers with their vehicle Thursday afternoon.

Trey Jackson, 25, is charged with two counts of assault and battery of a law enforcement officer, one count of obstruction, driving revoked and speeding.

Just before 1 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the 2000 block of N. Armistead. During the traffic stop, the officers say Jackson provided false information.

The officers attempted to remove the suspect from the vehicle to place him under arrest and the suspect drove off, dragging both officers a short distance.

Jackson then fled on foot. Hampton Police initially tweeted they were looking for the suspect at 1:44 p.m.

At 2:03 p.m., they tweeted that the suspect was in custody.

Both police officers were taken to a local hospital. They were treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital.

Hampton City Schools announced that Machen Elementary and Burbank Elementary were on a modified lockdown and would be dismissing 30 minutes late but the schools were officially cleared by 2:04 p.m.

Jackson remains in custody at the Hampton City Jail.
