Suspect sought after woman, 19, shot while driving in Hampton

The woman drove home before realizing she had been shot in the arm, police say.

NORFOLK, Va. — A suspect is on the loose after a 19-year-old woman was shot while driving in Hampton early Thursday morning, authorities said.

The woman was driving in the 1800 block of West Mercury Boulevard at around 3:45 a.m. when she heard a popping sound. She told police she thought the noise was her vape exploding while on the charger.

She continued her drive home and noted she felt "a lot of pressure in her upper body and felt winded," authorities said. At home, the woman realized she had been shot in the arm.

She drove to the Portsmouth Naval Hospital where her injuries were determined to be not life-threatening.

Police said there is no suspect description at this time and the motive behind the shooting is under investigation.
