Hampton man charged after pit bulls jump fence, kill neighbor's pet

A pet in Hampton has died after being attacked by two pit bulls over the weekend.

HAMPTON, Va. — A pit bull owner in Hampton has been charged after his dogs were involved in an incident Saturday morning.

Hampton Animal Control officers received a complaint of "two vicious dogs" in the 1900 block of Long Green Lane just after 11:30 a.m.

An investigation indicated two pit bulls jumped a fence and attacked a homeowner and his pet. When the homeowner fired a gun toward the pit bulls, they ran away. The pit bulls were not harmed, but the homeowner's pet did not survive the attack, according to Hampton police.

The owner of the pit bulls, Myles D. Morton, was charged with two counts of "dog at large while attacking" and two counts of "dangerous dog," with one count for each dog.

The pit bulls are currently in the custody of the Hampton Animal Control.
