PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A grand jury filed new charges against a man accused in a shooting at a house on Maple Avenue last summer.
Antwann Gore faces four counts each of aggravated murder and gun charges, according to records in Portsmouth Circuit Court.
The indictment, filed on Jan. 5, comes after a judge dismissed charges against Gore late last year.
Last June, four people died after the shooting. Georgio Lee, 30, Oleisha Mears, 37, Ashley Merricks, 34, and 66-year-old Samuel Jones lost their lives.
Police originally charged Gore and his relative, Raymond Lee Gore, for the crime. But charges against both men were thrown out in court.
In December, a judge found there wasn’t enough probable cause to continue the case against Antwann Gore. So, prosecutors took the matter to a grand jury.
When asked about the case, Portsmouth Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Morales would not discuss specifics. But she explained a grand jury indictment is another option when a case is dismissed.
“In any instance where we have serious violent crimes, we have witnesses, we have evidence, and we have enough to submit that to the grand jury, we will do so in order to stay committed to fighting against violent crime and to seek justice for the victims who were harmed as a result of those actions that took place," she said.
Multiple people in the area near Maple Avenue did not want to go on camera but said they hope whoever is responsible is brought to justice.
13News Now reached out to Portsmouth police to learn if they are actively searching for Antwann Gore. We did not hear in time for this report.
Meanwhile, there are currently no new charges against Raymond Gore, according to Portsmouth Circuit Court.
