GLOUCESTER, Va. — A woman is facing murder charges after deputies say she stabbed her mother to death.
Christa Pohorence has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and stabbing while in the commission of a felony.
The Gloucester County Sheriff's Office said they responded to a reported murder Tuesday morning in the 1600 block of Abingdon Lane. They found Christa Pohorence’s mother, 72-year-old Marsha Pohorence, dead inside her bedroom.
Next door neighbor Mary Batchelor said that police knocked on her door at 4:50 a.m. Tuesday, with questions.
"At 4:50 our doorbell rang, my husband answered it and there was a sergeant investigator. That’s when things started going through my mind, I hadn't seen the mom in a couple of weeks, maybe something happened to the mom," said Batchelor.
Batchelor said that both the mother and daughter were quiet but friendly.
"The mail lady comes at the same time every day, I would see her, Mrs. Pohorence, walking down to the end of her driveway to get her mail and stuff. If we were outside, she would wave. And now you're not going to see that anymore, it’s sad,” said Batchelor.
Now Batchelor is left with a lot of questions over what happened.
"I don't understand how Christa could do that, but the mom was just a sweetheart. I just can't imagine what happened to get to that point,” said Batchelor.
Christa Pohorence was taken into custody at the home, and she is currently being held in the Gloucester County Jail without bond.
