VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The 15-year-old girl killed in the shooting near the Mount Trashmore Summer Carnival was a student within Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS), officials confirmed with 13News Now.
A spokesperson for VBCPS didn't specify which school she attended but said the school has a crisis support team on campus Tuesday.

The shooting happened Saturday night, stemming from a fight inside the carnival earlier in the night that off-duty Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office deputies had to break up, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD).
Then, at around 8:30 p.m., the dispute continued outside the carnival in the parking lot located on Edwin Drive, VBPD said.
VBPD said at least one person had a firearm and subsequently fired shots, striking the 15-year-old girl and 18-year-old boy.
Both teenagers were taken to the hospital for treatment where VBPD said the girl, who has not been publicly named, succumbed to her injuries. The 18-year-old man remains in critical condition.
