Former York County Little League coach sentenced for child sex crimes

YORK COUNTY, Va. — A former York County baseball coach has been sentenced for child sex crimes.

Shawn Tenkley pleaded guilty to four counts of carnal knowledge of a child last year. On Thursday, he was sentenced to 10 years on each count.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office had said the victim was between the ages of 13 and 15.

According to the circuit court clerk, the sentence comes with several years suspended, leaving five years and nine months of active prison time, with probation after.

At the time of Tenkley's arrest in 2022, York-Poquoson Sheriff J.D. "Danny" Diggs said Tenkley was known in the community as a coach for the York County Little League Baseball team. However, Diggs added that the victim in this investigation was neither a family member nor a member of a Little League team.
