VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A former Virginia Beach police officer was arrested on Wednesday for forcible sodomy of a minor.
Members of the Virginia Beach Special Victims Unit arrested 48-year-old Mark David Johnson of Farmington, Minnesota, and charged him with one count of Forcible Sodomy of a minor.
During his video arraignment Thursday morning, Johnson revealed he is a firefighter in Minnesota with a wife and three kids.
Johnson requested a public defender, but the judge said he did not qualify for one.
According to the arrest warrant obtained by 13News Now, the alleged crime occurred between August 29, 2015, and August 28, 2016. The victim was a girl younger than 13-years-old.
Johnson appeared before the magistrate Wednesday evening, and his bond was denied. He is being held at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center at this time.
Police said the victim and Johnson knew each other.
Johnson was employed with the department for 20 years before leaving in 2017.
Johnson denied a 13News Now interview request.
When asked for comment on their former employee, Virginia Beach Police spokesperson Tonya Pierce said they will not make a comment, as their department is leading the criminal investigation.
He was denied bond by a judge on Friday.
A preliminary hearing date will be set on April 3.
