Victim arrives to Suffolk hospital hours after early New Year's Eve shooting

Details surrounding what led up to the shooting or a suspect have not been released at this time.

SUFFOLK, Va. — An investigation is underway after an early New Year's Eve shooting injured a man and damaged an occupied vehicle in Suffolk.

The Suffolk Police Department (SPD) was alerted of the shooting on Freeney Avenue and Railroad Avenue at around 2:40 a.m. 

At the scene, officers found a woman whose vehicle had been hit by gunfire while she was inside. The woman was not injured, luckily.

About two hours later, police learned a man suffering a gunshot wound in the leg had arrived at Obici Hospital. Officials determined he had been wounded in the shooting on Freeney Avenue.
