VIRGINIA BEACH -- People in Hunt Club Forest got home Wednesday and found that someone or some people broke into their houses and took a number of items.
"It's my privacy. This is where I live," said Matt Daugherty. "To think somebody went through my personal items and stole my wife's jewelry, my watches, my money, you know, it kind of hits a hard spot."
Daugherty, who got home to his house on Hunters Run Trail at about 4 p.m., told 13News Now the burglar(s) pried open the side door of his garage, then kicked in the door leading from the garage to the kitchen.
He checked to make sure no one was inside and called police, not realizing at the time that other homes were burglarized.
"The fact that they came in and took what little we had is really frustrating," said Laura Patrick, who lives next door to Daugherty and his wife.
Patrick found the back door of her family's house kicked in. She said the burglar(s) broke into at least two other homes.
"It sucks that they hit, you know, all of the neighbors and so many people all at once, but, ultimately, we have a lot to be thankful for because we can recover from it," shared Patrick. "Ultimately, we're just super grateful that they did only take small things and, you know, a small amount of stuff."
"Be careful. Be on the watch," Daugherty warned. "There's, obviously, some people that don't work for a living like most of us here in Virginia Beach, and they steal for a living."
Neighbors told 13News Now all the items taken were things that someone could carry easily. The burglar(s) passed over larger items and ones that may be more difficult to sell/trade. They believe the break-ins took place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday.
