NORFOLK, Va. — A convicted felon was sentenced on Friday to four years in prison for shooting at a dog, striking a Norfolk home, the Office of Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney announced on Tuesday.
Neal Cook, 35, was sentenced on two counts of being a non-violent felon in possession of a firearm and one count of maliciously discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling.
“The law protects human beings and our companion animals, and we are glad that the victims and their pet are all right,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi. “The defendant engaged in violent and dangerous behavior, and he has earned his sentence.”
According to the release, surveillance video from Jan. 15, 2020 shows Cook shooting toward a barking dog in a yard near Bapaume and Bellevue avenues. Officials said the shots fired missed the dog and residents but struck the home.
When he was arrested nearly a month after the shooting, authorities recovered a firearm.
