CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A Virginia man has been sentenced to over 34 years in prison for the brutal assault of a woman working alone in a hookah lounge.
Authorities say Romon Millner, 32, of Chesapeake was convicted of 17 felonies in connection to the attack in May of 2021. Millner was sentenced three years after the attack on July 23.
Investigators say Millner is convicted of the following offenses:
- One count of abduction with the intent to defile
- Three counts of strangulation
- One count of robbery
- Six counts of forcible sodomy
- Three counts of rape
- Three counts of object sexual penetration.
In the early morning hours of May 25, 2021, detectives say Millner robbed a hookah lounge on Eden Way. There, he came across a woman working in the store alone and held her against her will. She recognized him as a previous customer but did not know him otherwise.
Throughout the evening, he brutally attacked, physically assaulted, and raped her repeatedly, both at the hookah lounge and after driving her to a second location outside.
Police say the woman was seriously injured as a result of the attack.
In an interview with detectives, Millner tried to claim that the sex was consensual.
A judge later sentenced Millner to 34 years and 10 months in prison. A permanent protective order was issued, barring Millner from any contact with the victim or her family. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
The case was investigated by the Chesapeake Police Department Special Victims Unit, and prosecuted by Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Kerry McArdle.
