Chesapeake man sentenced to 26 years for 2022 murder in South Norfolk area

The sentencing for Johnnie Warner III, 45, comes after his conviction on charges of first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A Chesapeake man was sentenced to 26 years in prison Friday for a January 2022 murder in the South Norfolk area of the city.

The sentencing for Johnnie Warner III, 45, comes after his conviction in September 2023 on charges of first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The shooting happened on Jan. 26, 2022, in the 2500 block of Lanier Street. According to the Chesapeake Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, police and emergency personnel responded and unsuccessfully tried to revive the victim, Lavance Flora.

Investigators recovered doorbell video footage that showed Warner shooting Flora four times.

The Chesapeake Commonwealth's Attorney Office said the victim is survived by his lifelong partner, Amber Warner, two sons Lavance Flora Jr. and Elija Flora, brother Dormance Flora, and other loved ones.
