Woman found not guilty in connection to deadly Portsmouth shooting of 10-year-old

Shawnday Ross had faced a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor in the death of Keontre Thornhill.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A woman arrested in connection to the deadly shooting of a 10-year-old in Portsmouth was acquitted of the charge, online court records show.

Shawnday Ross had faced a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, but investigators haven't clarified the circumstances around the charge. A spokesperson for the Portsmouth Commonwealth's Attorney's Office said a judge found Ross not guilty on Monday.

According to Portsmouth police, a fight between juveniles on Farragut Street escalated into gunfire and ultimately the deadly shooting of innocent Keontre Thornhill on the evening of April 26.

Ross was the only person arrested in Thornhill's murder, but police previously said they were looking for Cleon Banks as a person of interest. According to previous 13News Now coverage, Banks is considered armed and dangerous.
