Man charged with shooting woman while trying to break into her home in Carrollton

The victim told the man trying to get in that she was calling 911 and as she did so, deputies say the man began to shoot through the door.

CARROLLTON, Va. — A man is facing numerous charges after Isle of Wight deputies say he tried breaking into a woman's home and then shot her through the front door.

Investigators said that just before 8 a.m. Monday, a woman called 911 saying an unknown man was trying to break into her home in the 2100 block of Victoria Court in Carrollton. She told the person trying to get in that she was calling 911 and as she did so, deputies say the man began to shoot through the door.

The woman was struck in the lower leg by a bullet as she fled to the rear of the home. She was taken to a local hospital where she is in stable condition.

The woman was able to provide deputies with a brief description of the gunman. Based on that description, deputies found and took into custody 56-year-old Gregory Davis. A gun was also recovered.

Investigators said Davis lives on the same block as the victim. He is currently being held without bond at Western Tidewater Regional Jail on charges of attempted 2nd-degree murder, malicious wounding, two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, attempted burglary to commit murder, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
