Former Assistant Scoutmaster from Virginia Beach pleads guilty to child porn

Andrew Harris Reshefsky faces between five and 20 years in prison when he is sentenced in October.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Virginia Beach man who is a former Assistant Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography, the Department of Justice said Friday.

Virginia Beach police said an investigation last year identified 42-year-old Andrew Harris Reshefsky as a distributor and recipient of child sexual abuse material. Prosecutors said police seized electronic devices from his home during a search warrant and found numerous pictures and videos.

Prosecutors said his phone contained pictures of the sexual exploitation of children that had been received in WhatsApp messages in 2021 and 2022, while forensic analysis of other electronic devices found additional videos and pictures of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) dating back years.

Reshefsky will be sentenced in October. He faces a mandatory minimum of five years in prison and a maximum of 20.

The Department of Justice said that anyone who believes they or someone they know may have been victimized by Reshefsky should contact the Homeland Securities Investigations (HSI) tip line at 1-877-4-HSI-TIP or through the CyberTipline on the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's website.
