Body discovered in dumpster after fire extinguished in Portsmouth

After extinguishing a dumpster fire on Pepperwood Court, Portsmouth police discovered human remains.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — On Monday night around 9 p.m., Portsmouth police headed to the 3600 block of Pepperwood Court for a report of a body discovery.

A dumpster had been on fire, and after the fire was extinguished, officers confirmed the presence of human remains in the dumpster, Portsmouth police said.

Due to the condition of the body, the police are working with the medical examiner to identify the victim.

The case is being considered an active homicide investigation with the Portsmouth Police Department's Major Crime Unit. Anyone with information on the incident should contact the Investigations Bureau at 757–393–8536 or the Crime Line at 1–888-LOCK-U-UP to remain anonymous.
