Man accused of shooting into occupied Virginia Beach home

The shooting happened on Mulberry Loop at around 8:30 a.m. Monday.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Norfolk man is facing charges for allegedly shooting into an occupied home in Virginia Beach Monday morning, authorities said.

In a release on Tuesday, the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) announced that Kaevon Hinnant, 25, was arrested on two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Hinnant is accused of firing into a residence located on Mulberry Loop near London Bridge Boulevard at around 8:30 a.m. Police did not say what led up to the shooting.

People in the neighborhood say they're shocked and scared days after bullets flew into a neighbor's home. They say they heard 5 or 6 shots around 8:30 Monday morning. One person we spoke to says a neighbor saw a man run into the backyard and fire another round of shots into the back of the house minutes later.

Those we spoke to call this a quiet neighborhood, but over the last two days, police have investigated the home and the pond behind it. Neighbors say, during the incident, they saw a man drop a gun in that pond.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call the VBPD Detective Bureau at 757-385-4101.

The Norfolk Police Department assisted in the investigation.
