MATHEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- A 21-year-old man is facing charges in connection to a deadly double shooting that happened earlier this month.
On the night of May 4, Mathews County sheriff's deputies responded to a residence in the 2600 block of Ridgefield Road, after receiving two 911 calls about an altercation and shots fired.
Arriving deputies and medical personnel found 61-year-old Steven Allen Eary with a single gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A second gunshot victim was treated for a grazed wound to the shoulder and released.
Following an investigation, the Sheriff's Office says it has arrested 21-year-old Chad Casey Whitmore of Newport News. Whitmore is charged with with murder, malicious wounding, and two counts of use of a firearm.
Whitmore was taken into custody on Tuesday and transported to the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center, where he is currently held without bond.
