Suspect in Smithfield stabbing turns himself in, police say

SMITHFIELD, Va. — A man who Smithfield police accused of stabbing another man last week has turned himself in.

Tarvarus Kea was charged with aggravated malicious wounding and being a felon in possession of ammunition. The investigation began Thursday when detectives received a call for a stabbing.

Police found a man on Quail Street suffering from a large knife wound almost 18 inches across his stomach, according to previous 13News Now coverage.

When searching for Kea, police considered him armed and dangerous.

"He is an 11-time convicted felon," Lt. William Wooley told 13News Now last week. "We did a search warrant of his residence, and inside his residence we also located ammunition in his room. He is a convicted felon, so we are going to be taking out further charges."

The victim has since been discharged from the hospital.
