PORTSMOUTH --Police continue to search for the shooter who wounded five people outside a Portsmouth strip club early Tuesday morning.
The shooting happened at Pure Diamonds Restaurant and Lounge at 4105 Portsmouth Blvd. just before 2 a.m.
"When the bar was closing, everyone was going out the front door, and that's when the incident occurred and that's when the 9-1-1 calls came in," said Det. Misty Holley with the Portsmouth Police Department.
Officers arrived to find a crowd outside, but no victims.
A few minutes later, police say three men and a woman arrived at the emergency room at Bon Secours Maryview Hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. One of the men was then sent to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
A fifth person grazed by a bullet did not go to the hospital, authorities added.
Portsmouth police officers have been called to the club 28 times in the past year, according to police records.
"I don't think it has an impact on my business, but it concerns all citizens when five people get shot at one time," said Germain Green, an owner of a neighboring auto shop.
Green says despite Tuesday's violence, the establishment is a marked improvement from years past.
"I used to frequent this place a long time ago, it used to be bad so compared to 15 years ago I think it's pretty good now," Green said.
