4 people injured in overnight shooting on the Virginia State University campus

According to the Chesterfield County Police Department, around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to a reported shooting near Daniel Gymnasium.

PETERSBURG, Va. — Police are investigating a shooting that injured four people on the Virginia State University campus Wednesday morning.

According to a Chesterfield County Police news release, officers responded to a reported shooting on Boisseau Street outside Danial Gymnasium at 12:36 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found four people shot. All four were taken to local hospitals with injuries not considered life-threatening, police said.

Police also said no officers discharged their firearms during the shooting.

County and university police said they are investigating the incident and charges are pending against multiple suspects.

According to a university spokesperson, all back-to-school events for freshmen on Wednesday are scheduled to continue as planned.
