NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Four men are in the hospital following an overnight shooting in Newport News, authorities confirmed Sunday. The homeowner exclusively tells 13News Now it was part of a "drive-by shooting."
"We had just come back when all I know is bullets everywhere," said the homeowner. "I ran, I ducked, I could feel the hot as bullets went past me."
The shooting happened on Parish Avenue between 26th and 27th streets at around 2:13 a.m., according to the Newport News Police Department (NNPD).
The homeowner said she and a group of friends and family had just returned home from a night of celebration.
"A birthday party, we were all coming back from the party," said the homeowner. "That's when someone came up behind us in their car and started shooting at us."
The homeowner said she raced into the house for cover as the alleged shooter drove away.
At the scene, officers found one man suffering from life-threatening injuries and three others with injuries considered non-life-threatening. All four men were taken to a hospital.
There's no word on any suspects at this time or the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
The homeowner said she did not know who could be behind the shooting, but that she's grateful to be alive, and for her grandchildren to be alive who were all asleep on the second floor.
