NORFOLK, Va. — Three men from Hampton Roads were arrested for allegedly robbing mail carriers with the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) at gunpoint, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said Friday.
Ricky Damion Christopher Jones Jr., Samir As-sad Hurd, and Manray Perry face various charges, including conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery, interference with commerce by robbery, and assault of a federal employee with a dangerous weapon.
According to the DOJ, beginning at least in April 2023 through at least July 2023, Jones, Hurd, Perry, and others allegedly planned and executed armed robberies of postal carriers in Norfolk, Hampton, and James City County.
The suspects would approach the mail carriers, pull out a firearm, and demand their “arrow” keys, the DOJ said.
Jones and Hurd were arrested on Tuesday, while Perry was arrested Wednesday.
The DOJ said the U.S. Postal Inspection Service investigated the case with help from police in Newport News, Hampton, Williamsburg-James City County, and Virginia Beach.
