WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Four people have been arrested after an armed home invasion Tuesday afternoon in Williamsburg, says the York-Poquoson's Sheriff's Office (YPSO).
A spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office said that deputies were called around 1:30 p.m. to a home in the 100 block of Douglas Drive off of Merrimac Trail in the Carver Gardens neighborhood for a report of an armed home invasion in progress.
The caller reported that four men, one armed with an assault rifle, were trying to enter their home forcibly. The caller stated that there were small children in the home.
Sheriff's deputies were near the area and quickly responded. When they arrived, the victim told deputies that the suspects fled on foot and described the vehicle that had brought them there.
The victim also said that he knew the suspects.
“We relied on the victim in this case. We knew the people who were there and had a relationship with them, and later, we were able to find all four people who were in the vehicle," said Sheriff Ron Montgomery.
Sheriff's deputies found the vehicle with the four suspects inside, and they were taken into custody.
The assault rifle was not found in the vehicle, but Deputy Sheriff Ashley Octaviano and her K9 partner Ghost located the AR-15 rifle that was fully loaded and discarded by the suspects when they fled.
“What was really alarming was the fact that the small children in this house," said Sheriff Montgomery.
People who live in the Carver Gardens neighborhood are shocked by the incident.
“It seems a little weird out here again because we’re a quiet neighborhood," said neighbor General XO.
Three adults and a minor were charged with crimes connected to the incident. The adults are being held at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail, and the juvenile is held at the Merrimac Detention Center.
18-year-old Emanuel E. Davies of Stafford is facing charges including brandishing a firearm, destruction of property, and attempted burglary while armed with a deadly weapon.
19-year-old Caden Jones of Hampton is facing charges including brandishing a firearm, destruction of property, and attempted burglary while armed with a deadly weapon.
20-year-old Shynerria Walker of Newport News is facing charges, including attempted burglary while armed with a deadly weapon and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
A 17-year-old from Newport News was also charged with brandishing a firearm, attempted burglary while armed with a deadly weapon, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
