19-year-old charged in Elizabeth City shooting

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — Police in Elizabeth City have charged a 19-year-old in a shooting early Thursday morning.

Police were called to the 700 block of Parsonage Street for a report of a shooting and found Eddie Suarez Jr. suffering from two gunshot wounds.

Witnesses identified the suspect as 19-year-old Javonte Allan Armstrong, but he had fled the scene prior to police arrival. 

Suarez was flown to Norfolk General Hospital and is in stable condition, according to police. 

Armstong turned himself in at the Elizabeth City Police Department and was charged with assault of a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. 

He is being held at Albemarle District Jail with a $30,000 secured bond. He appeared this morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Pasquotank County District Court.
