17-year-old boy arrested in deadly Virginia Beach shooting, police say

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection to a deadly shooting in Virginia Beach last month.

The teenager was charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department.

The shooting happened on April 5 in the 1200 block of Level Green Boulevard, not far from Indian River Road and Providence Road. Officers responded around 10:45 that night and found Kalani Bailey-Cortez, 21, with a gunshot wound.

Medics pronounced Bailey-Cortez dead where the shooting happened.
