POQUOSON, Va. — Cleanup is underway after Monday night's storms brought down small trees and limbs around Poquoson.
Many people weren't expecting the storm, like Gerry Labarre.
“I didn't hear a thing,” Labarre said. “I went out this morning and saw big limbs down.”
Labarre has lived in Poquoson for almost 40 years. Although there are trees all around her home, she said thankfully, none have ever come down. But, a few limbs came crashing down just feet away.
“The day before winds were stronger but these came down last night so here we are,” Labarre said.
Labarre said she and her neighbors were surprised the storm brought down anything.
“We've had several taken down and I just talked to them about taking down more but they're healthy and I hate to take healthy trees down.”
There was no major damage, but enough to keep crews busy for hours.
Poquoson Tree and Crane went around Poquoson and cleaned up the aftermath.
While there is potential for more severe weather, Labarre said she isn't too worried.
“We have been very fortunate,” Labarre said. “I hate to take any [trees] down but someday we will."
