NORFOLK, Va. — For the seventh year, we put the call out, and the people of Hampton Roads ran with it. Together, we helped raise more than $1.4 million by the end of the day May 12 during Give Local 757. (The money kept coming, though. More on that below.)
The event is the region's largest single-day fundraising event. The goal is to raise as much money as possible to benefit hundreds of great nonprofit organizations that provide diverse services and programs to people all year long. This year, your generosity benefits 222 groups.
Because of the impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on so many people and on so many groups, the money raised has even greater significance this time.
By the way, the donations kept coming after May 12. By the morning of May 13, contributions passed the $1.6 million mark (and the tote board just kept updating). Wow!
So, you still can be part of the effort. Here's how to do it...
Head to Give Local 757's website. Once you're there, you can search for a group by name, by location, or by cause. When you find the group you want or like, you can look at its profile or just click on "Donate."
Run through the donation process, popping in all the information you need to provide, and submit your contribution.
Boom. Give yourself a high five or a quick pat on the back. It's all right to do it. It's good stuff, and you deserved it.
If you already gave: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
If you're going to give: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
