PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Portsmouth students kicked off their weekend with a lesson in leadership.
The Youth Leadership Development Program gives students an empowering environment to grow through "hands-on, minds on" activities.
"This is really about mentoring kids and kind of helping pull out their leadership skills very early on -- and all of that's gotta be good for our city," said Mark Hugel from Portsmouth City Council.
The program also allows them to connect with others and learn their leadership abilities.
The program happens on the first Saturday of each month. Parents are welcome to attend.
