Kahiau Bakery and Cafe partners with YMCA's LiveStrong program ahead of World Cancer Day

Through February 4th, you can help the vegan bakery and cafe support YMCA's LiveStrong program by simply buying cheesecake.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — If you enjoy cheesecake, it's never been easier to make a positive impact in your community.

World Cancer Day, recognized on the 4th of February, is an important, but bittersweet day for many. One Hampton Roads business is steering the movement in a more sweet direction.

Vikki Sgro, the owner of Kahiau Bakery and Cafe, is recognizing the 10-year anniversary of her mother passing away from lung cancer. This year, she decided to do something special to honor her, and everyone impacted by cancer.

Sgro shared that her mother's favorite dessert was cheesecake, so whenever a customer asks for Jeanne's Cheesecake, those proceeds go toward the YMCA's LiveStrong program, a free 12-week program to help cancer survivors stay active and find community.

Sara Wood, a YMCA LiveStrong coach, highlights loneliness as an issue for cancer survivors. But this program gives them a chance to build community with others who have gone through a similar experience.

The event begins on Wednesday and is happening through February 4th or until or until cheesecakes sell out.
