NORFOLK, Va. — Give Local 757 brings people together to make a difference for local nonprofits that deliver vital services to everyone in our Hampton Roads community.
Empowering all youth and helping them reach their full potential... that has always been the mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Virginia. The organization is one of the most well-known non-profits in the region, having put down roots in Norfolk more than 100 years ago.
Clubs across the region provide safe spaces, getting kids who may not have sufficient care at home off the streets and into programs that help them grow academically, socially, and physically.
“They’re ready to go on to a career not just a job,” said Kevin Will of the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Virginia. “Or are going on to post-secondary education to pursue their dreams or whatever they want to do.”
The organization achieved many accomplishments in 2023.
100% of members graduated high school, 78% of members see themselves as leaders and 94% of members plan to pursue higher education in some form.
But continuing at this high level isn’t easy; budgets are stretched and providing new resources for kids requires constant funding. Thanks to donations and grants, the organization was able to renovate the Southside Club in Norfolk in 2022.
Along with gaming equipment, fitness rooms, a teen lounge, and a music studio, the club also offers a workforce development center that helps with job placement for local young adults.
Upgrades like these at other clubs in the region will help the organization lift our youth and make all our communities better for another 100 years.
