Virginia Beach organization provides resources to families with autism

The 6th annual "Superheroes vs. Villains 5K" run will be held April 28 at the Great Dismal Swamp Canal Trail in Chesapeake.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — April is Autism Awareness Month, and the Virginia Beach nonprofit Autism Society Tidewater Virginia, works to provide resources and events for those in the community with autism.

"Our mission is to create a world where resources are in abundance to families with autism so that they can just get connected and leave more meaningful lives," explained Whitney King with Autism Society Tidewater, Virginia.

Some of those resources include connecting with local therapists, ABA providers, pediatricians, and mental health consultants.

The nonprofit also hosts community events, including the upcoming 6th annual "Superheroes vs. Villains 5K" run, which will be held Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the Great Dismal Swamp Canal Trail in Chesapeake. Proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Autism Society Tidewater Virginia.

More information about the organization, its events and resources, and how you can get involved is available on its website.

Autism Society Tidewater Virginia is also represented by Give Local 757, Hampton Roads' largest single-day fundraising event. This year's Give Local 757 Day is Tuesday, April 23.
